Terms of use

Kamelo · Last updated 18 October 2026

These terms apply when you use Kamelo’s browser extension for Chrome, Edge and Firefox, in any edition: the free Melo, by Kamelo, Melo Plus and Kamelo Business. "Kamelo", "we" and "us" mean the maker of Kamelo. "You" means the person or organisation using it.

Summary

The free Kamelo

The free Kamelo (the private chat Melo and the temporary-chat notice) costs nothing. Its source code is published at github.com/OfficialKamelo/kamelo-open under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). For that code the AGPL-3.0 takes precedence: where these terms and the AGPL-3.0 differ, the AGPL-3.0 applies. The names "Kamelo" and the logo are not covered by that licence.

Melo Plus

Melo Plus is coming soon and can't be bought yet. When it launches, it will cost €4.99 per month or €54.99 per year, including VAT. It is billed in advance for each period and renews until you cancel. You can cancel at any time; Melo Plus then stays active until the end of the period you paid for. We'll show the exact purchase and payment terms before you can buy it. Your rights as a consumer, such as the right of withdrawal where it applies, are not affected by these terms.

Kamelo Business

Kamelo Business is a separate edition for organisations. It is not open source. We give your organisation a licence to install and use it, on the following terms.

If your organisation has signed a separate agreement with us, that agreement takes precedence over these terms where they differ.

Acceptable use

Use Kamelo lawfully. Don't use it to harm others, to get around a licence or the settings your organisation chose, to interfere with websites or services, or to process data you are not allowed to process. Don't present Kamelo as your own product.

AI services and your responsibility

Kamelo is not an AI service. ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Copilot and the other services you use are run by other companies, under their own terms and privacy policies. What you send to them, and whether you are allowed to send it, remains your own responsibility (or your organisation's).

Kamelo reduces the chance that sensitive details reach an AI, but it does not guarantee it. Detection is rule-based and can miss things, such as an unusual name or a term nobody added to the list. Uploaded files and images are not masked. Read what you send before you send it. If your organisation uses Kamelo Business, it remains responsible for its own obligations under privacy law, such as the GDPR.

Answers from AI, including from Melo, can be wrong. Don't rely on them for medical, legal or financial decisions without asking a professional.

Availability and updates

Kamelo is distributed and updated through the official browser stores (Chrome Web Store, Microsoft Edge Add-ons and Firefox Add-ons), or in another way we agree with your organisation. Only install it via kamelo.eu or those stores. Kamelo runs on your own device; we don't run a service it depends on. We may improve, change or remove features in updates. Only the latest version receives fixes, so keep Kamelo up to date. Websites and AI services change often, and Kamelo may not work on every site at every moment.

Liability

Kamelo is provided as it is, as far as the law allows. Our total liability towards you is limited to the fees you paid us for Kamelo in the 12 months before the event that caused the damage. For the free Kamelo, which costs nothing, the AGPL-3.0 applies. We are not liable for indirect damage, such as lost profit or lost data, or for what AI services or other third parties do with what you send them.

These limits don't apply to damage caused by our intent or gross negligence, or where the law doesn't allow liability to be limited. If you are a consumer, you keep all rights that the law gives you.

Privacy

How Kamelo handles data is described in the privacy policy. For organisations using Kamelo Business, see the data processing statement.

Ending

You can stop using Kamelo at any time by removing the extension; that deletes everything it stored on your device. We may end a licence for Kamelo Business or Melo Plus if it is used in serious breach of these terms, after telling you by email and giving you a reasonable time to fix it where that is possible.

Changes to these terms

We may change these terms, for example when we add a product or a law changes. The new version will be published at this address with a new date. If you pay for Kamelo, we'll email you about important changes at least 30 days before they take effect; if you don't agree, you can cancel before then. Changes never apply to a period you have already paid for.

Law and courts

These terms are governed by Dutch law. Disputes go to the competent court in the Netherlands. If you are a consumer living in another EU country, you keep the protection of the mandatory law of your own country and may also go to the court where you live.
